Junction City, Kansas: The Midwest Titans were ready to take on the much improved Junction City Spartans Football Team Saturday Afternoon June 27, 2009. The Titans cruise by the Spartans 46-13 in an offensive explosion and another 3 quarter shutout by the Titans Defense also know as “The fastest Show on Turf.” The Titans showed their offensive improvements for the 2nd week in a row by scoring 40 of the 46 points posted by the Titans. Kicker/Punter Josh Sartain (Sherwood High) also saw his best performance on the season and went 4/7 of PAT’s. Sartain is also one of the Titans rookie standout on the defensive side of the ball. The Titans Offense was lead by Starting QB Eric Hoskins (Missouri Western University) who lead the passing game of the Titans. “Eric Hoskins was selected as the offensive player of the game and had one of his best days as a Titan player;” said Head Coach Robert Webb. Hoskins connected with three different wideouts for 3 passing TD’s of 22 yards, 7 yards, and 21 yards. Eric also had a very nice 6 yard rushing TD that brought the crowd of the Titans to its feet. The wideouts that was on the receiving end of the TD’s were Mo Green (Burlingame High), starting TE Chris Dunlap (Northwest Missouri State University), and veteran leader Phenys Rattanavong. Starting wideout Jason Browning (Central Missouri State University) led all receivers in total yards with 7 attempts for 103 yards. The running game of the Midwest Titans was slowed by a solid defensive performance of the Spartans DL and LB’s, but managed to get starting FB Bobby Karl Harris (Ottawa University) and starting HB Jay Robinson (Missouri Western University) a rushing TD each. Back-up HB JD Tillman (Grandview High) and back-up FB Hugo Trejo (Shawnee Mission North High) both had some runs that caught the eyes of the Titans Coaching Staff. The offensive-line "Big boys" (Wheeler, Johnson, Brock, Austin, Clark, Counce and Barlett) have continued to play better as a unit. Without the good play of the O-line, we don't have a solid running/passing game;” stated Offensive Coordinator Eric Hoskins.
The Midwest Titans Defense pitched another shut-out for 3 quarters of play. The Titans "fastest Show on Turf" Defense continued to show that speed kills. Defensive Coordinator Butch Powell have really got the entire defensive unit" playing together as a one and have instilled in the guys that a discipline defense; is a good defense. Undersized; but big at heart; the Titans displayed why they have one of the fastest defenses in the league. The Titans defense had 2 interceptions, 4 sacks, and 2 fumble recovery against a much improved Junction City Spartans Offense. DB Butch Powell (Lincoln University) had the Titans 2 interceptions and he recovered 1 of 2 fumbles on the day. Starting OLB Steve Butler had a solid performance on the day by recovering the other fumble by the Spartans and coming up with 1.5 sacks. Player of the game on defense was rookie back-up DB Darrious Evans (Central High, Arkansas) who made 3 key plays that saved the defense from giving up more than 13 points on the day. Evans is also becoming a key piece to the Titans Special Teams. The Titans continue to get good play from its defensive line which is lead by 2nd year starter Dominique Johnson (Grandview High) and 3 year Titan Veteran DT John Holland (Missouri Valley College). Other notables on the day were the entire Special Teams of the Titans. The Titans received a grade A from Head Coach Webb who was very please in all phases of his Special Teams including the kicking game. Starting wideout and kick return specialist Mark Moore (Mid-American University) gain the benefits of great blocking by the Kick return team of the Midwest Titans and return a kick for a 75 yard TD. Moore did this with a very sore knee after taking a helmet to it early in the 1st quarter. Head Coach Webb said; "This was kind of a tough game to prepare for, knowing what we had in store for us if we win this game." The final from Junction City, Kansas was your Midwest Titans-46 and the Junction City Spartans-13. The Midwest Titans take their record to 3-0 in league play and 3-0 overall. Now the Midwest Titans will gear-up and get ready for a big league game @ the KC Panthers just north of Kansas City in Park Hill, Missouri. “Over the past 2 years the Titans and Panthers Game have lived up to the hype that comes with it. The Midwest Titans and KC Panthers have played games that fans and players are still talking about today;” said head Coach Robert Webb. The Midwest Titans and KC Panthers will clash at Park Hill District Stadium in Park Hill, Missouri on Saturday July 11, 2009 at 6:00pm.
