“Rough” ending for the River City Rough Riders as the Midwest Titans go
to 2-0!
Titans win 35-19!!!
By Titans Media Relations-
June 13, 2009
River City, Wisconsin- The Midwest Titans who traveled to
Wisconsin put together a solid performance with missing 5 key starters
on defense.
The Midwest Titans defeated
the River City Rough Riders by a final score of 35-19, but the score
does not indicate how close the game was until late in the 4th
quarter. The Titans coaching staff had a very good idea that they were
in for a long day vs a very good team in the Rough Riders.
The Rough Riders is one of
the NAFL’s top teams in the northern conference. Before joining the
NAFL, the River City Rough Riders was one of the nation’s top minor
league teams for many years and dominated a very good Minnesota league.
“This was and still is a very good football team and they will make a
lot of noise in the Northern Conference for a playoff spot;” said head
Coach Robert Webb.
The game was a defensive battle the entire 1st
quarter. At the end of one quarter of play, the score was 0-0. The 2nd
quarter saw the Midwest Titans adding 12 points to the score board but
could not buy an extra point. The Titans kicking game was well below
average the entire game.
The Titans got their first
score of the game when starting QB Eric Hoskins (Missouri Western
University) connected with starting Wide-out Mark Moore (Mid-American
Nazarene University) on a 21 yard pass. Extra point was no good by 1st
year K/P Josh Sartain (Sherwood High).
The passing game of the
Midwest Titans was clicking on all cylinders and QB Eric Hoskins
finished the day by passing for 256 yards of 29 attempts and 2
Interceptions. 2nd year starting Wide-out Jason Browning
(Central Missouri State University) lead all wide-outs with a total of
45 yards receiving and 1 TD on the day. Browning also contributes in a
very big way on Special Teams and lead the Kick-Coverage Team with 3
solo tackles.
The running game of the
Titans held their own and was lead by starting HB Jay Robinson (Missouri
Western University) who rushed for 99 yards on 16 carriers. After
rushing for over 112 yards in the Titans last game, Robinson was just
one yard short of back to back 100 yard games.
Starting FB Karl Harris
(Ottawa University) has been a beast this year in practice and it shows
on game day by his blocking and hard nose toughness for our opponents.
Harris did rush for the Titans only other rushing TD from 2 yards out to
give the Titans the lead late in the 4th quarter for good.
“Head Coach Webb stated that
he also saw good performances by back-up HB JD Tillman (Grandview High)
and 3rd string FB Hugo Trejo (Shawnee Mission North High).
These two guys are showing much improvement everyday and will buy for
more playing time;” said head Coach Webb.
When the defense took the
field for the 1st time in the game, starting FS Butch Powell
(Lincoln University) pick- off a Rough Riders pass, but the player of
the game was back-up LB Saliek Johnson (Westport High) who got his 1st
start of the 2009 season, lead the entire defense with 2 interceptions
and returned one 11 yards for a Titans TD. Saliek Johnson had a total of
90yards and a Interception. Saliek Johnson also continues to be the
Titans best special Teams player. He has been a leader in that
department for Coach Webb and the entire Titans team for the last 2
years.
Playing in his first every
Minor league game, starting DB Jamel Simms (Missouri Science &
Technology University) have got a lot of people so anxious to see him
play and he did not disappoint the staff of the titans by recording his
1st every minor league Interception and returned it for 23
yards to set up another TD for the Titans on the day. Jamel Simms and
Mark Moore are both Hickman Mills High graduates and All-Americans in
college; we are sure they will become leaders on and off the field for
the Titans before this year is done. The owners, Eric Hoskins and Robert
Webb are very excited to have these two guys join the team this year.
Other notiables on the day
was rookie Wide-out Matt Robinson (Grandview High) who had 2 catches for
23 yards and one he almost got into the end zone but came up 2 yards
short. Standout DT Dominque Johnson who lead all DL with 7 total tackles
and 4 of those were solo tackles.
The final score was 35-19
with 6 of those points coming from a defensive score by the Titans. The
Titans Defense is averaging 2 scores per game and that is what Defensive
Coordinator Butch Powell and Asst. Defensive Coordinator Dan Aschman is
expecting all year long. “The guys responded in a major way by coming
out and playing our style of football and that is using our team speed
and executing each play 110%. We may not have a lot of size, but we will
play with big hearts and beat you with our speed,” said head Coach Webb.
The Midwest Titans start the
2009 season off 2-0 in league play and now is focusing on the Junction
City Spartans. The Spartans are coming off a very tough lost to cross
town rival of the Titans, the KC Panthers last week-end. The Titans will

Titans secure 2008 NAFL Heartland Division Championship!!!
By
Titans Media Relations- September 20, 2008
Harrisonville, Mo: Your Midwest Titans have secured the 2008 NAFL
Heartland Division Championship with a 27-21 victory over the ST Louis
Bulldogs. For the second time this year the Midwest Titans and the ST
Louis Bulldogs went to war on Saturday night September 20, 2008. This
time it was for the 2008 Heartland Division title. Both teams came out
and displayed heart and determination from the opening kickoff to the
last second of the fourth quarter. In deed this was an action pack and
entertaining game to watch, according to the Titans Media Relations.
The
Titans offense got off to a fast start when their running game lead by HB Jay Robinson (Missouri Western University) and FB
Troi Maupins
(Sedalia-Smith Cotton) moved the ball right down to the 1 yard line.
This set the Titans up at first and goal. Starting QB Eric Hoskins
(Missouri Western University) scored on a dive and gave the Titans a 7-0
lead with 8:33 left in the first quarter.
PAT was good by K/P Matt Witcher (Avila University). At this point, both defenses took over the
game and the score at the end of the first half was Titans 7 and
Bulldogs 7. With 12:31 left in the 3rd quarter, Starting HB
Jay Robinson proved that he is one of the league’s fasted running backs
and broke off a very nice 70 yard TD run that put the Titans up 14-7.
Robinson ended the night with just over 160 rushing yards and 41
receiving. PAT was good by K/P Matt Witcher. The Titans other
outstanding HB DeShawn Goldsmith (Mid American Nazarene University) gave
the offense another spark when he rushed for over 50 yards in one series
along and ended that drive with a 1 yard TD run that put the Titans up
20-7 with 6:57 left in the third quarter. Goldsmith ended his night with
86 yards rushing and 23 receiving.
PAT was no good by K/P Matt Witcher.
The ST Louis Bulldogs took the momentum back and put together a nice
drive that ended up in a TD. This brought the Bulldogs to within 7 of
the Titans and ended the third quarter with the score 21-14 in favor of
the Titans. With only a 7 point lead, the Titans defense took over again
and starting DB Steven O’Connor (Southwest Missouri State) came up big
with a nice interception in the corner of the end zone stopping a
possible go ahead TD for the Bulldogs.
Then the offense of the Titans
was force to punt, but capitalize big on a fumble by the Bulldogs punt returner and starting wide-out Jason Browning (Central Missouri State
University) who is one of the Titans gunners on punt team scoop up the
fumble and went 38 yards for a TD. This put the Midwest Titans up 27-14
with 9:23 left in the fourth quarter. PAT was good by K/P Matt Witcher.
Special Teams play by the Titans was a major factor in helping the
Midwest in the 2nd half.
The ST Louis Bulldogs was able to
score a late TD but again, the Titans “Blackshirts” Defense proved that
they are a force to be reckoned with. Starting DE Gary Coates came up
with a nice interception late in the fourth quarter and this was all the
Titans needed to seal the victory and become the new 2008 Heartland
Division Champs. Other notables were LB Brian Allen and Safety John
Holland who both had Fumble recoveries on the night. The final score was
your Midwest Titans 27 and the ST Louis Bulldogs 21.
The ST
Louis Bulldogs had won the Title 2 out of the last 3 years only to tie
current Titans Head Coach Robert Webb for a share of the Division Title
in 2005 when he was the Head Coach for the Kansas City Shockers. In only
their second year of play, the Midwest Titans have capture their first
Division Title and now look forward to completing a outstanding year
when they host the Cass County Renegades this Saturday night September
27, 2008 in Harrisonville, Mo. The Cass County Renegades will be playing
for a playoff spot and is a solid football team. This is guaranteeing to
be a hard hitting, action impact game. Please come out and support your
newly crowned 2008 Heartland Division Champs. Gates open at 5:00pm and
Kickoff is set for 7:00pm. Please wear as much orange as possible to
help support the Titans. See Ya on Saturday night. Blessings!

TITANS JUMP OUT TO 17-7 LEAD OVER KC JAZZ!!! GAME CALLED AT HALFTIME DUE
TO LIGHTING!!!!
By Titans Media Relations- July 26, 2008
Harrisonville, MO: Your Midwest Titans jumped out to a 17-7 lead and
that’s all they needed to pick-up 5th win of the season
because the game was called at halftime due to lighting. “We knew there
was a strong chance of bad weather to hit us before the game was
complete, but not in the first half of play;” said Head Coach Webb.
The Midwest Titans got off to a fast start when the Starting QB
Eric Hoskins (Missouri Western University) connected with starting
wide-out Kellen Long (Olathe North) for a 46 yard TD pass with 4:29 left
in the 1st quarter.
PAT was good by K/P Matt Witcher (Avila University). Strong Side Backer
CJ Johnson (Central Missouri State) picked –up an 8 yard sack that
pinned the KC Jazz deep inside their 10 yard line on their final
possession of the first quarter.
The first quarter ended with the Midwest Titans leading the KC Jazz 7-0.
Starting DE Mickey Nolan (Avila University) got the second sack of the
game for the Titans’ Defense. Entering into the 2nd quarter,
the Jazz got a early score, but the Titans answered right back when the
offense went on a 7 play 68 yard drive that was caped off with a 3 yard
TD run by FB Troy Maupins (Sedalia Smith Cotton) at the 2:56 mark of the
2nd quarter.
Kick was good by K/P Matt Witcher. Kicker Matt Witcher added the final
points of the half when he nailed a nice 41 yard field goal just before
half time. Starting DB Desmond Jamison (Mid-American Nazarene) added
another interception to his total when he picked off a deep pass and
took it all the way back to the Jazz 20 yard line for a 53 yard INT
return.
With less than 2 minutes left in the half, free safety Jeff Edwards
(Southeast Missouri State) recovered a fumble by the KC Jazz running
back and this ended the 1st half of play with the Titans
leading 17-7. Just as both teams were taking the field for the 2nd
half, lighting moved in and refused to leave. After a long wait, the
game was called and the final score was Titans-17 Jazz-7. The Midwest
Titans are now 5-0 with the victory and is looking forward to hosting a
divisional game against the Missouri Wildcats this weekend, August 2,
2008. The Titans staff and players understand that this is a huge game
for them. The Titans are hoping to pack the stands and show the Missouri
Wildcats how we do it here in Harrisonville, MO home of the Midwest
Titans. See you all this Saturday night at Memorial Stadium and please
come support the Titans. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm. Blessings!
TITANS SEND “SHOCK WAVE” REMAINS UNBEATEN WITH 31-12 WIN OVER THE KC
SHOCKERS!!!
By Titans Media Relations- July 19, 2008
Liberty, Mo: As Midwest Titans Head Coach Robert “Bo” Webb
put it; “This game has been in the making for the last two years.” The
wait didn’t seem to matter for the Titans as they remained undefeated
with a 31-12 thumping or the KC Shockers last Saturday at William Jewell
College in Liberty, Mo. The win moves the Titans to 4-0 and gives them a
lead in the Heartland Division heading into this Saturday’s home game
against the KC Jazz. Defense has been the story all season for the
Titans and the trend continued against the Shockers. Midwest had a 14-12
lead at halftime, but after the intermission, the Titans got things
rolling and the defense stifled the Shockers, holding them scoreless the
final two quarters of the game. This allowed Midwest to pull away. “Our
defense once again was a real big standout, and the team as a whole is
starting to make a real big name for itself across the entire league,”
Webb said. The Midwest Titans are slowly moving up the ranks nationally
and now sits at #9 out of 142 teams in the NAFL (North American Football
League). Not to bad for a team that’s in its second year season of
play.
“Grouch match indeed!” That is why this game had more on the
line for Head Coach Webb, some of his staff members, and some of his
players. Webb said; “I was the Head Coach of the KC Shockers for 3
seasons and also help start the Organization.” Webb was not the only one
who let the KC Shockers, Current Titans Starting QB and Offensive
coordinator Eric Hoskins, Defensive Coordinator Tim Ellis, Wide
Revivers/Tight Ends Coach Robert Hall, and a hand full of players who
also joined the Titans from the Shockers. This group and the rest of the
Titans had a lot to prove going into last Saturday’s game and “Yes” this
was personal according to many of the members of the Titans.
The first half was close with The Titans leading 14-12 at
halftime, but the second half was all Titans. Starting QB Eric Hoskins
(Missouri Western University) threw 3 TD passes in the second half
alone. The first score of the game was too wide out kellen Long (Olathe
North) for an 8 yard TD catch with 1:52 left in the second quarter. Kick
was good by K/P Matt Witcher (Avila University). The other first half
points came when LB Salik Johnson (Westport High) blocked a punt and it
was recovered in the end zone by DT Brian Allen (Butler County
College). The Titans defense and special teams came up big in the third
quarter with 2 safeties handing Midwest an 18-12 lead going into the
fourth quarter. Hoskins capped of the scoring with two, fourth quarters
TD passes. The first to wide-out Jason Browning (Cass County’s Sherwood
High and Central Missouri State University) for a 46 yard pass with 8:08
left in the fourth. The final score of the game came on a beautiful
strike from QB Hoskins to wide-out Joe Jones (Grandview High) with 4:03
left in the game. K/P Matt Witcher was 3 for 4 in PAT’s attempts but
missed a 31 yard field goal. The game ended with the Midwest Titans
picking-up its 4th win of the season 31-12 win over the KC
Shockers. The Titans return to action this Saturday night July 26, 2008
in Harrisonville, Mo for a home game against a much improved KC Jazz
team. Kick-off is set for 7:00pm. The Titans are also playing at home
again next Saturday night August 2, 2008 against the current undefeated
Missouri Wildcats. Kick-off for this game is also set for 7:00pm. The
Titans look forward in seeing all fans and supporters at both games
starting this Saturday night. Blessings!
"TITANS PLAY HOME OPENER WITH HIGH EMOTIONS"
Titans open up 2008 home schedule with 24-0 win over KC Panthers!!!
By
Titans Media Relations- July 12, 2008
Harrisonville, Mo:
Playing with high emotions; The Midwest Titans took
the field Saturday night against the KC Panthers with a tragedy on their
minds. Starting QB and Co-Owner Eric Hoskins lost his 4 month old son
Ethan Hoskins to a sudden infection on Friday afternoon, less than 24
hours before kickoff. Ethan Hoskins is the newest member of the Titans
family. On a night filled with mix emotions; the Midwest Titans still
managed to play 4 solid quarters of football to open up their 2008 home
schedule with a 24-0 shutout victory over the KC
Panthers. Playing in front of the largest crowd of the 2008 season, the
Midwest Titans proved why they will be a force to be reckoned
with. "WOW" what a performance by a very good defense Saturday night and
yes it was a night that belonged to the Titan's "Blackshirts." Former
Titans back-up QB David Jones, who is now the starting QB for the
Panthers
ended his day by tossing 5 interceptions to the Titans ‘Blackshirts”
Defense. “Not to take anything away for David Jones, we (Staff of the
Titans) just know him very well” said Head Coach Webb. The "Blackshirts"
showed why they are considered one of the league's fastest defenses and
why they like to fly around to make plays as a unit. "Defensive
coordinator Tim Ellis has this defense right where the team needs them
to be at this point in our young 2008 season and we all know that they
will improve week to week.
Keep up the good work Coach Ellis;" said Head Coach Webb. Starting
DB Desmond Jamison (Mid-American Nazarene University) got things started
when he got one of his two interceptions of the night by picking
off Panther's QB David Jones in the endzone for a touch back. Jamison
ended his night with 2 Int's and a blocked punt for a safety.
Not
to be out done by his running mate starting DB Steve O'Connor (Southwest
Missouri State) got 3 interceptions on the night and returned one for a
10 yrd touchdown with 4:46 left in the 4th. This put the Titans up 16-0.
The final touchdown of the game came on a "crowd pleasing play"
When DT Brian Allen (Butler County College) caused a fumble and starting
DE Gary Coates (Avila University) scooped up the ball and raced down
field for a 53 yrd touchdown return. The 2 point
conversion was good
by Robert Hall (University of Tennessee) when he tossed a pass to WR Joe
Jones (Grandview High) in the corner of the end zone. The game ended
with a final score of 24-0. The Titans defense also recorded
numerous
sacks on the night. Deshawn Glodsmith (Mid-American Nazarene
University),
and Steve Butler (Columbia Rock Bridge High) accounted for 1 sack each.
This was a outstanding performance by the Midwest Titans "Blackshirts"
Defense. The Titans offense was well below their 48 points per game
average, but did managed to put 7 points on the board when starting FB
Karl Harris (Ottawa University) ran a Panther defender over to score
from 1 yrd away.
Kick was good by K/P Matt Witcher (Avila University). Now the
Midwest
Titans take their overall record to 3-0 in League play. The Titans open
up their 2008 Division schedule this weekend when they take on the
KC Shockers. This will be a short drive up north to William
Jewell University in Liberty, Mo home of the Shockers. This is a highly
anticipated match-up because There is a lot of history between members of
both teams. Kickoff is set for 3:00pm. Titans fans are encouraged
to wear white and black colors. See Ya'll Saturday afternoon in Liberty,
Mo. "GO TITANS."
